Plastic Make Co supports custom overmolding projects where one material is molded over another plastic, metal, or insert substrate. Overmolding is often used for soft-touch grips, sealing areas, impact protection, insulation, ergonomic surfaces, and combined functional assemblies.
Overmolding Applications
- Soft-touch TPE or TPU grips on plastic handles and tool parts.
- Sealing lips, gaskets, protective edges, and anti-slip surfaces.
- Plastic over metal inserts, shafts, brackets, and hardware.
- Consumer products, electronics, medical devices, and industrial parts.
Material Compatibility
Successful overmolding depends on substrate material, overmold material, bonding method, processing temperature, surface texture, mechanical locking, and part design. We review whether chemical bonding, mechanical retention, or a combined structure is the most practical route.
Tooling and Trial Control
Overmolding usually requires closer trial control than simple single-material molding. We check substrate placement, flow balance, flash, bond strength, color, surface quality, and deformation. For parts with sealing functions, functional testing requirements should be agreed before production.
